Comedienne

Liliana sometimes decides she's going to be stubbornly grumpy.  Almost nothing can shake her out of this attitude when she's committed to it.  Not that we don't try - but sometimes when your performance falls flat, you feel like a comedian who's totally flopped.  Katie's often fought Lilie's grumpiness with some humor, and when confronted with stony silence has quipped, "Hello... hello - is this thing on?".

We didn't think Lilie got it - until the other night, when Katie was talking to me on the phone as we commuted home from different points.  We'd been talking a while, with Lilie babbling in the background the whole time.  Suddenly, I thought I heard Katie start to choke on the phone.  She didn't take long to recover, but laughed a long time before she could explain what happened:

Lilie had been chattering away to Katie and was apparently frustrated with the attention she was or wasn't getting.  Katie had been giving the noise in the back seat half an ear until she heard a pause, and then Lilie popped off:  "Hello - is this thing on?"

Got it?

We found ourselves at Subway the other day for lunch, and at Lilie's insistence, we stayed there to eat.  What luck!  Lilie was an angel - and a ham - the whole time we were there.

She finished a pretty decent lunch with a cookie, but was chipping away at it so slowly that we wondered if we'd get out of there before dinner.  Lilie really knows how to enjoy her dessert...  We thought we could speed things up if we pretended to sneak bites of her cookie.  Fortunately, she decided to turn it into a game.

"Uh oh!  I'm going to take a bite of your cookie!"

"No, no, Daddy!" Lilie would turn from whatever she was pretending to watch out the window.  "You don't take a bite of my cookie!"

Giggling, she'd turn her back to us and peer out the window again, craning her head around to 'catch' us out the corner of her eye.  Katie slowly crept a hand onto the table, and crinkled the wrapper noisily while making munching sounds.

Lilie spun on her.  "No, no, Mommy!  I'm looking out the window to see what's out there for us, and you don't take a bite of my cookie."  She paused, and caught Katie's eye.  "Understand?"

We've been trying to use 'Do you understand?' instead of 'Okay?' as confirmation of Lilie's understanding something - especially when it comes to discipline or consequences.  When you ask a two-year-old if something's 'okay?', it kinda leaves you open to having the child say 'no'.  It's apparently working!

Somebody got into the chapstick.  I'll give you two guesses on who it was...

Bounce house fun at a birthday party for Liliana's friends Tyler, Delaney, and Claire.

Last weekend we had the pleasure of spending some time with Aunt Tina, Uncle Brian, Brayden, and Emily.  I didn't snap as many pictures as I would've liked but here are the few I did get:

Liliana's "sneaky" face.  For some reason, you must put your hands in front of your mouth and wiggle your fingers around anytime you're sneaking up on someone.

Apparently Aunt Tina is hip to this tactic.

Liliana received an awesome present from her Uncle Seth, Aunt Jennifer, and her cousins.  She loves to ride her spaceship around the house; this girl is ready for takeoff!
