Elephant Rocks State Park

We visited Elephant Rocks State Park in Ironton, MO over the weekend.

It was originally supposed to be a trip with my colleagues from work.  It turned out that only Clayton and his family could make it, but that was cool - Liliana made a new friend in his daughter Willow.  They're about the same age, and they're both girls, so it was kind of a natural fit.  Liliana was very excited about the trip, and compiled a list of questions for Willow as we drove to meet them Saturday morning:

"I'm going to ask Willow [okay, it sounds like 'Wiyow' when she says it] how many wedding dresses she has."

"I'm going to ask Willow if she ever trips over the roughy parts of her dresses when she walks."

"I'm going to ask Willow's mommy and daddy what kind of band-aids they have."

The list went on from there, but those were among the most interesting...

The trip included some driving on Highway 21, also known as 'blood alley' owing to the number of accidents the highway has every year.  It's being improved bit by bit, and fortunately we didn't have any problems with the road - except that it was closed right after the town of Caledonia, a few miles short of our destination!  We ended up being advised of a shortcut by a local who was working in the world's greatest general store there.

The road was unpaved and really narrow in many places, but it did get us there without losing 45 minutes to the detour!  Time was of the essence, because I had to be back home by 5PM to work the night shift for a software upgrade at the office.  We ended up having a couple of hours to play, but it was worth the drive.  The weather was beautiful, the company was great, enjoy the pics!

P.S. - Blogspot has a new 'feature' where they arbitrarily refuse some of your pics, which requires you to upload them again.  This bonus feature also appends them to the end of your list, ruining your chronological order.  Sorry, dear reader - and thanks, blogspot!

Ah, Super Hatcher - antique incubator, I've had my eye on you for years.  Someday you will be mine!
